Drug Awareness Fun
Fridays/
We
believe that educating children early is key in preparing them for
their future, if and when they are confronted with drugs in their
lives. Our goal
is to "arm" them with the skills and information to make educated
decisions about their bodies and what they choose to put in
them. Pioneer's Year-Long
Drug Awareness Program begins in October with our Red Ribbon Kick-Off
Week, and then is revisited during our monthly Drug Awareness Fun
Fridays throughout the year. Each Fun Friday has a theme and
the
teachers prepare lessons that address the theme. The students
get
to "dress up" on Fun Fridays (Theme Example: Follow Your Dreams --
kids wear p.j.'s and the classroom activities revolve around the theme
of "What I can be if I am Drug Free!"). Our PTA delivers a
"traveling trophy" full of fun prizes and balloons for the
class with the most participation. The kids look forward to
Fun
Fridays and even our youngest students can tell you about drugs and how
they can hurt your body and ruin your life. We believe in our
students and are committed to helping them make smart, educated
choices! For Drug Awareness Fun Friday questions, contact Maria
Luke (super5150@msn.com)
or Karla Schmelzenbach (karlaschmelzenbach@gmail.com).Red Ribbon |

Pumathon
Pumathon is a walking/running activity during lunch recess
on Mondays and Friday. It will start on September 14th through November 6th
in the fall and begin again April 12th through June 14th in the
spring.
Students run or walk laps around the school field. For each lap they earn a punch on their punch card. Three laps equals one mile. The kids work toward their goal of 26 miles which equals a full marathon while having fun with their friends. We ask that you please encourage your child to participate to help promote better health habits and great fitness. Please send your child to school with appropriate exercise shoes and attire (no flip-flops). We still need volunteers who would like to help while the kids run laps. It's a very fun way to spend time with your children. Please e-mail Stephanie at mrachek@cableone.net or Rush at alfordhome@q.com if you are interested in joining our team! |
